A few months ago, I was hating myself for over doing it on the champs consumption during my office holiday party and was looking for everything under the sun to help me get back to feeling normal.
Naturally, I headed to one of the juice bars across the street from my apartment and proceeded to order three ginger shots, a giant green juice and one of my favorite sandwiches. I thought all of the healthiness would get me feeling like my normal self again. And while it did, I still felt a little off.
Of course, I scoured the Internet for a way to eliminate the champs that was still floating throughout my system. And I did: Activated charcoal.
According to Dr. Axe, activated charcoal is a potent natural treatment used to trap toxins and chemicals in the body, allowing them to be flushed out so the body doesn’t reabsorb them. It’s made from a variety of sources, but when used for natural healing, it’s important to select activated charcoal made from coconut shells or other natural sources.
So I found a local juice bar that sells one of the many elixir forms in which this comes in and started feeling normal within a few hours. I did order a bag of charcoal from Amazon, to keep on hand for future cases like this.
Here are some of the benefits of drinking activated charcoal:
- Energy boost
- Cure a hangover (or at least ease it)
- Powerful detoxer
- Whitens teeth
- Face mask
- Alleviates bloating
- Reduces high cholesterol
While I normally just drink this plain, one of my favorite recipes is the charcoal lemonade:
- 8 oz. of water
- Juice from one lemon
- Tablespoon of charcoal
- 1 teaspoon of honey or agave
I normally drink charcoal when I feel like I’ve indulged too much or am doing a rest, just to add that extra kick.
